Fuori Salone, also known as Fuorisalone, is an event that takes place every year in the Lombard metropolis, coinciding with the Salone del Mobile, with which he defines Milano Design Week (or simply Design Week) or Milan Design Week. Together with the Salone del Mobile, it is the most important event in the world that concerns the industrial design sector, in particular the furniture sector.
Like Italian design and in particular Milanese design, but also like all the applied art and industry that has always characterized Italy, Fuori Salone does not have a precise geographical location: design has spread throughout the city of Milan in a capillary way and with it also the places of interest of the event. The events are mainly located in the showrooms of participating companies, which are scattered throughout the city. However, there are some districts of Milan that have taken on a leading role during the history of the Fuori Salone, becoming real icons.
Over time, entire areas have been dedicated to temporary exhibitions during the design week, they are often former industrial areas that companies take over for that period in order to create great points of interest, rich not only in exhibitions of the various products, but also in performance and works of various kinds. The exhibitions, and above all the events, which also include exhibitions, meetings, debates and interactions with visitors; they are no longer organized only in the most central areas of the city near the shops and showrooms of the companies themselves, but are dedicated real structures, otherwise in disuse, even in less central places of the city.
In addition to the characteristic neighbourhoods, there are also exceptional events organized in various other points of the metropolis, varying from year to year, extending the culture of design to all Milanese districts. Moreover, every year, evening and night parties are organized at the end of the design week, the most famous is the one organized by Esterni, which over the years has changed the site of the event several times; from a national monument such as the Racecourse of the San Siro gallop 2009 edition to Argelati swimming pools in the Porta Genova district of the 2013 edition.

One of the most representative scenarios of the off-premises is the city centre of Milan; this area is basically characterized by events located inside the showrooms of the various manufacturers of furniture and industrial design objects, scattered along the nearby streets of San Babila up to via Turati. But it is not only the showrooms and shops that host the events of the off-premises, but also in Piazza Duomo are set up every year, tensile structures and temporary exhibitions as well as interactive environments freely usable by visitors. The University of Milan is also playing an increasingly important role in this area, as it organizes a large number of performances, music and exhibitions on industrial design, but also on interior design and urban planning at its headquarters in Via Festa del Perdono.
